Lab Instruments Online At Last

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, October 28, 2002

FermWorks™ software is featured in the latest edition of Bio-IT World magazine as part of their feature about networking lab instruments. The author includes a sidebar article titled "Networking Those Pesky Bioreactors" and writes, "At some labs, the most urgent problem is what to do about instruments that can't be stitched into a network. Jova Solutions Inc. of San Francisco has a solution." The article points out that FermWorks can help laboratories collect data from both networked and non networked instruments. "Its software allows the manual input of data from off-network instruments crucial to the optimal performance of equipment that is connected...They [researchers] have a single source that holds everything they need."

The article continues "Jova Solutions has developed a niche: networking bioreactors for companies like Genentech, which use Jova Solutions software to monitor and control the production of genetically engineered bacteria that contain new drugs."

The article notes the efficiency in experiments that FermWorks offers drug discovery companies "scientists often find themselves in charge of what amount to small biological factories... [FermWorks] software allows scientists to run their assembly lines from their offices."

Andrew Johnson , President of Jova Solutions, says about the article, "It shows that the trend to provide remote diagnostics for lab instruments is definitely here. For us, this is an extension of remote intranet monitoring that we've done for manufacturing plants for over a decade."
