FermWorks Expands Instrument Support by Adding Nova BioProfile 400 and Applikon i-Control Bioreactor

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - 11/05/2007

Jova Solutions today announced support for the Nova BioProfile 400 analytic sampler and Applikon i-Control bioreactor controller in FermWorks. FermWorks automation software is designed as an open instrument portal, bringing together data from all of the instruments typically used in fermentation and cell culture laboratories within one process control and networked data management solution.

The new FermWorks driver for Nova BioProfile 400 automates the transfer of Nova analytical results into FermWorks software. Nova data are stored in FermWorks as editable values, and are inserted in the process database at the corresponding sample time. This new support greatly reduces the chance for errors in transferring Nova data, previously done by hand, and ensures that Nova sample data are made available for automated process control decisions in the fastest time possible.

The addition of Applikon i-Control to the instruments supported by FermWorks ensures that data management and process control for Applikon’s newest bioreactor controller are seamlessly integrated into the existing laboratory environment.

“Jova Solutions is continually adding to the library of equipment supported by FermWorks,” said Andrew Johnson, President of Jova Solutions. “FermWorks serves scientists and researchers as a single-point information portal providing data management and process control for legacy, current, and future laboratory equipment, all within one flexible automation system.”

In addition to the new instruments announced today, the FermWorks library of supported instruments includes: analytical instruments (Cedex Cell Measurement Systems, VG Prima Mass Spectrometers, BGA 248 Blood Gas Analyzers, Innova Gas Analyzers, YSI 2700s); local control systems (Applikon 1010, 1030, 1060 and ez-Control; Sartorius DCU, Biostat; NBS BioFlo, any OPC source); process control equipment (MasterFlex pumps, SciPro pumps, Mettler-Toledo balances, and Brooks MFCs); and probes and sensors (Aquasant Optical Density Probes, BlueSens CO2 and DO2 sensors). Software drivers for these instruments are available to all FermWorks customers and all offer the benefit of automating data transfer into FermWorks as editable variables, linked to process control.
